Retain Members with Discounts and Pausing

### Creating Membership Cancellation Discount Codes and Using the Pause Membership Option You can create discount codes specifically to offer fans who attempt to cancel their membership subscriptions. This helps with retention by providing special offers during cancelation attempts. Here’s how to set it up and how the pause membership feature works: #### How to Create a Membership Cancellation Discount Code 1. Navigate to the **Discounts & Trials** page from the left-hand sidebar. 2. Click **Add Discount or Free Trial**. 3. Select the membership you want the discount for, then choose **Fans Cancelling (Retention)** as the discount type. 4. Set the discount: define the discount percent, how long it will be valid, and the maximum number of people who can redeem it. 5. Set an expiration date for the retention discount or check the box for “Retention Discount does not expire.” > Note: You do **not** need to opt in separately to enable the Pause Membership option; fans will automatically be given this pause option during cancellation. #### Sharing Discount and Free Trial Codes as Direct Links You can share discount and free trial codes via direct URL links, simplifying the checkout process for your fans. - Go to **Discounts & Trials**. - Click the **Share Direct Link** button next to the desired discount. - A pop-up will appear with a button to copy the link. - Share this link directly on your social media or elsewhere to provide easy access for fans. This feature works for both memberships and shop item discount codes. #### Pause Membership Flow When Cancelling When fans try to cancel their membership, they will go through the following: 1. On the left-hand sidebar, go to **Membership**. 2. Fans choose the membership to cancel and click **Cancel Subscription**. 3. They complete a feedback form. 4. Fans then can choose to either **Keep Subscription and Accept Discount** or **Confirm Cancellation**. 5. If choosing cancellation, fans have the option to **Pause Membership** instead by selecting how long to pause (1 month, 3 months, or 6 months) and clicking the pause button. #### Frequently Asked Questions - **Does this apply to lifetime subscriptions?** No. It only applies to monthly, quarterly, or annual subscriptions. - **If I don’t set up a cancellation discount code, do fans still have the pause option?** Yes, the Pause Membership option is automatically available for fans. - **Are direct discount code links available for shop items as well as memberships?** Yes, you can copy and share direct links for both memberships and shop item discounts. This setup helps you retain fans by providing discounts during cancellation attempts and offering an easy way for fans to pause rather than fully cancel their membership.
