## What Is a Chargeback? A chargeback happens when a fan disputes a charge directly with their bank or credit card company. It can come from a few places: - The fan doesn't recognize the charge - They're unhappy with the product or service - They believe the transaction was fraudulent ## What Happens When a Chargeback Is Filed? Here's how the process unfolds: 1. **Immediate refund to the fan** - The bank or credit card company refunds the fan right away while they investigate. 2. **Funds are temporarily deducted** - The disputed amount is held from your creator balance during the review. 3. **Review period** - This process is entirely up to the financial institution and can take up to 75 days or longer. 4. **Final decision** - The institution decides whether the transaction stays reversed (fan wins) or the fan gets re-billed (Passes wins). ## How to Reduce Chargeback Risk Chargebacks can't be fully prevented, but you can lower the chances significantly: - **Stay in communication** - Keep the conversation open with fans who have concerns. Quick responses go a long way. - **Set clear expectations** - Describe exactly what fans are purchasing and when they'll get access. No surprises. - **Deliver on time** - Late or missing content is one of the most common dispute triggers. If there's a delay, communicate it proactively. - **Resolve issues directly** - Try to work things out with the fan via private message first. If you can't reach a resolution, point them to support at help@passes.com. - **Keep your receipts** - Save messages, receipts, and proof of delivery.
