OBS Setup for Live Streaming

## OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) Guide for Streaming on Passes ## What is OBS? OBS is free, open-source software used for video recording and live streaming. It lets you capture video from devices like your webcam or capture your screen, enabling you to stream on platforms such as Passes. ## Downloading and Installing OBS 1. Visit https://obsproject.com/ 2. Download the appropriate version for your operating system (Windows, Mac, or Linux). 3. Follow the installation instructions onscreen. ## Setting Up OBS for Passes Streaming ### Open OBS Settings - Launch OBS. - Click on "Settings". - Navigate to the "Stream" tab on the left. ### Select Streaming Service - Under "Service," select "Custom" from the dropdown menu. - Enter your stream key and server ID that you obtain from the Passes livestream page. ### Getting Your Stream Key and Server ID - Go to Passes and open **Creator Tools > Livestreaming**. - Scroll down to the Streaming Software section. - Copy the Stream Key and Server ID. - Paste these values into their corresponding fields in OBS. - **Important:** Keep your stream keys private and do not share them. ## Setting Up Scenes and Sources ### Understanding OBS Panels - **Scenes:** Collections of sources you can switch between (e.g., intro scene, webcam only scene). - **Sources:** Individual media inputs like webcams, screen captures, or text overlays. - **Audio Mixer:** Controls microphone and desktop audio levels. - **Scene Transitions:** Controls how scenes switch, usually default settings are adequate. - **Controls:** Start and stop streaming or recording, access settings. ### Adding Scenes and Sources - To add a new scene, right-click under "Scenes" and select **Add**, or click the "+" button. - To add a source within a scene, click the "+" button under "Sources". Common sources include: - **Video Capture Device:** For webcams. - **Browser Source:** For displaying web pages. - **Text:** To add custom on-screen text. ## Audio Setup - Go to **Settings > Audio**. - Select your microphone and desktop audio devices. - Use headphones during streaming to avoid audio feedback or echo. ## Connecting OBS with Passes Livestream - Visit the **Creator Tools > Livestreaming** page on Passes. - Customize stream permissions (viewers, interactions). - Ensure your video source is set to "streaming software" on Passes. - Set a title and description for your livestream. - In OBS, click **Start Streaming**. - On Passes, click **Go Live**. - When finished, click **Stop Streaming** in OBS and **End Stream** on Passes. ## Additional Resources - For a video walkthrough, check out the tutorial by CSM @Delaney Niermann.
